2009 is the 150 aniversary of the publication of "The Origin of Species" together with 200 years of the birth of its author Charles Darwin. Given this, next year becomes a singular year to celebrate this momentous theory and Darwin's legacy.

The evolutionary theory proposed by Darwin was a revolutionary one. In the XIX century his ideas about the history and diversity of life - including the evolutionary origin of humankind - contributed to major changes in the sciences, philosophy, social thought and religious belief. Impact that has reached present days, also in the form of hot debates. Keeping this in mind, we tryed to organise an event with deep foundations in biology but leting room to reflect some of its several faces.

In this sense, the meeting will be centred in biological issues, nevertheless, philosophical, social and historical aspects will be present. In addition, activities of other disciplines (e.g. economy, sociology, medicine, informatics, etc.) will be included showing the broad impact of evolutionary thinking. Finally, several other activities like art expositions, films, theatre, etc. will be accompanying the event.

· Plenary lectures delivered by prestigious persons of the evolutionary field with emphasis in the historical, social and philosophical aspects of evolutionary theory.

· Symposia and Posters sessions, of various topics in evolution the proposed list is (Human Evolution, Genome Evolution, Mathmatical issues in evolution, Viral Evolution, Historical and Philosphical aspects of evoluiton, Teaching evolution, etc.)

· Evolution School, a two - week school for regional students, covering diverse optics, conceptual approaches, methodological tools, etc.

· Artistic activities
· Social activies
